Description

Xavier Corberó (1935–2017) is regarded as one of Spain's leading artists of the 20th century. His sculptures in stone, marble, and bronze reflected themes shared by surrealist contemporaries like Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, and Joan Miró, though his style remained unique. His works are internationally recognised in institutions such as London’s V&A and New York’s The Met. However, his most notable creation may be his self-designed home near Barcelona, which evolved over five decades. This labyrinth of rooms, levels, and arches was continuously expanded as funds allowed, with Corberó often developing new plans during morning walks with a local builder. The House of Xavier Corberó, edited by his daughter Ana Corberó, is the first book to delve into his Esplugues de Llobregat home, which is now expected to be sold. Featuring original photography by Daniel Riera, it includes writings by Corberó's long-time friends and colleagues: architects Ricardo Bofill and Josep Acebillo, World Architecture Festival program director Paul Finch, artist and journalist Celia Lyttelton, RBTA director Pablo Bofill, and an interview with Corberó by filmmaker Albert Moya, first published in Apartamento magazine issue #16. Release date: 14 December 2021
