An Akari buying guide
Isamu Noguchi designed the first Akari light sculptures in 1951. They're still made by hand in Gifu, Japan, by the original manufacturer, from washi paper stretched over bamboo ribs.
Which Akari should I choose?
The 1A, 1N and 1AS are table lamps, the classic starting point: small enough for a bedside, a desk or a shelf. Larger floor and hanging models make a bigger statement in a living room. Tell us where it's going and we'll help you pick.
How can I tell a real Akari from a copy?
Akari lamps are handmade in Gifu, Japan, from washi paper over bamboo ribs. Copies are widely sold online, often for a fraction of the price, and tend to use thinner paper and flimsier frames. Ours are made by the original manufacturer in Gifu.
How do I look after an Akari lamp?
Dust the paper gently with a soft, dry brush and keep it away from water. The paper is part of the charm, so small creases are normal.
Can I see Akari in person?
Yes, at our New Bahru flagship, 58 Kim Yam Road. Delivery across Singapore usually takes 1 to 5 working days, and it's free on orders of SGD 100 and above.
