Co-founded in Finland by Alvar and Aino Aalto, Artek is best known for its furniture. Ours is a smaller, stranger edit: ceramics from Artek's FIN/JPN Friendship Collection, designed by the studio COMPANY, each one based on a piece of Finnish folklore.
The Midsummer Dream vase holds seven flowers, after the tradition of sleeping with seven wildflowers under your pillow to dream of your future love. The Lucia candleholder celebrates the December festival of light, and the Pauper coin collector is modelled on the statues that once collected donations outside Finnish churches. Objects with a story, which makes them very good gifts.

Arguably the cornerstone of Finnish furniture design, Artek’s story began way back in 1935. Their brand was inspired by moulding functionalism and elements of Finnish nature together, which can be observed in their sleek and practical designs. Now, Artek has a long list of catalogues consisting of clean-lined furniture and lighting while playing with organic elements like wood and clay. Fun fact of the day: the founder of Artek, Alvar Aalto, was the one who developed Finnish wood through woodworking techniques - maybe this gives a little insight to the story of Artek.
