Description
Hightide – Radiometer – a fascinating scientific object that transforms light into motion, doubling as an elegant piece of interior décor. Originally invented in the 1870s by British physicist William Crookes, the radiometer demonstrates how light energy can be converted into kinetic energy.
- Design – a glass globe enclosing a delicate impeller with black-and-white vanes
- Function – blades spin when exposed to light containing infrared rays (such as sunlight or incandescent light); the speed varies with the intensity of light
- Interior appeal – its clear glass and simple structure make it a striking decorative piece for any room
- Note – handmade; slight scratches, chips, or variations in shape/size may occur
- Care – will not react to low-light sources such as fluorescent or LED; in rare cases, the black coating on the vanes may peel, which does not affect function
